WHAT WE OFFER
Safe Journeys provides support to survivors regardless of their gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, immigration status, abilities, age, or background.
SUPPORT LINE
We are always available to listen to you and to connect you with support and help. Advocates can also provide information on how to help a friend or family member or give you names of other resources. Our support line is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week by calling 815.673.1555 or 800.892.3375.
SAFE SHELTER
We offer emergency, short term shelter for persons fleeing domestic violence and their dependents while they determine the best options for their family. The shelter is a homelike setting with communal kitchen, play, and television areas.
COURT & MEDICAL ADVOCACY
We provide support for survivors of domestic or sexual violence who are seeking protective orders and provide information about the court system. We also can accompany and support survivors while making a police report or attending a court hearing. Although the advocate is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice, they can provide referrals for attorneys and provide emotional support before, during, and after the court process.
Staff and volunteers also respond to hospitals and stand-alone emergency departments to provide support when survivors of domestic or sexual violence receive medical treatment.
sUPPORTIVE COUNSELING
Supportive counselors help survivors and certain support persons to sort out their feelings, develop new coping skills, and discuss their options as they begin to heal and rebuild their life.
CASE MANAGEMENT
Staff assist clients with such things as assessing and prioritizing needs and connecting with community resources.
Prevention educators and other staff can provide educational information to community, religious, and employee groups and in area schools. The purpose of this program is to build a community that works together to address the issues related to domestic and sexual violence.
